OUR HISTORY
COAL IN ESTEVAN
Lignite coal has been mined commercially in the Estevan area since the early 1880s. With the arrival of the railway in the early 1890s, coal mining expanded quickly. Over the years, mines opened, closed and merged. Today, Westmoreland Mining is responsible for supplying coal to Boundary Dam and Shand power stations.
